The Nice Carnival: the most spectacular celebration on the French Riviera 🎭

Every winter, Nice transforms into a true open-air theatre to host one of the most famous carnivals in the world. For two weeks, the city pulses with the rhythm of floats, flower battles and a truly unique festive atmosphere.

Since 1873, the Nice Carnival has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. This Niçois tradition, listed as cultural heritage, reinvents its universe each year around a different theme.

The 2026 edition breaks a historic tradition by crowning a queen for the first time instead of the traditional Carnival King. Artists and craftsmen work for months to create these gigantic floats that will parade along the iconic Place Masséna and the Promenade des Anglais.

These giant floats, over 20 metres high are the highlight of the show. Accompanied by dancers, musicians and performers from different countries, they create a breathtaking visual and sound spectacle. But the most poetic moment remains without a doubt the famous flower battle: thousands of fresh flowers are thrown from the floats in an explosion of colours and fragrances.

The Carnival takes place from 11 February to 1 March. The corsos are held in the evening and in the afternoon at weekends, while the flower battles take place in the afternoon. Remember to book your grandstand seats in advance if you want a front-row view.
